Henri Michaux and Rene Char, who asked him to oversee the publication of his complete works by the Bibliotheque de la Pleiade, have praised his work. In 2005, he was awarded the “Grand Prix de Poesie de la Societe des Gens de Lettres” for his life’s work.
Widely considered a specialist in contemporary tantric, brut, and tribal Indian art, he has curated a number of exhibitions, including one on tantric art at the Drawing Center, New York. He divides his time between Paris and Northern Burgundy. Black Square Editions has previously published two works by Jamme, the chapbook Extracts from the Life of a Beetle (translated by Michael Tweed) and The Recitation of Forgetting (translated by John Ashbery).
